Aponte Honey, Colombia
Nestled high in the Colombian Andes, the Inga community of Aponte traces their lineage to the ancient, pre-hispanic Inca civilization. During the tumultuous era of conquest, they sought refuge in the mountains, maintaining relative isolation until the late 19th century. However, the 1990s brought a darker chapter when their peaceful haven became embroiled in the illicit drug trade. For years, the Inga people were subjected to forced labor in poppy and heroin production under the control of guerrilla groups, drug traffickers, and paramilitaries. The once serene mountains were transformed into a landscape of illegal plantations and violence.
The last decade has ushered in a new era of hope for the Inga community. Their mountains have been reclaimed as a sanctuary, and the vestiges of the drug trade have been eradicated. In their place, a new culture has taken root: coffee. The Caturra coffee varietal thrives in the Inga territory, where smallholder farms dot the landscape at an average elevation of 2150 meters above sea level. This altitude, combined with the nutrient-rich ash from the Galeras Volcano, produces coffee beans of exceptional complexity and sweetness.
The Inga community takes pride in their coffee production, processing the beans on their own farms. This honey-processed coffee is meticulously dried on stacked raised bed solar dryers, minimizing water usage and preserving the natural nuances of this exceptional coffee whilst adding sweetness and complexity.

I bought some of this for my (other) coffee-loving brother who has consequently subcribed to Cracked coffee deliveries. It's my go-to day-to-day coffee and now it's his too. It's far tastier than it deserves to be at this price. Delicious!
Normally an instance coffee drinker, but this is so much better and no nasty after taste would definitely recommend this coffee
